Poinciana By Lisa D’Cato Happy Thanksgiving!
Being thankful means that you appreciate something, which usually implies somehow having someone to be thankful for. Maybe it’s the spouse who is working hard to support the family, or the parents who put their child’s needs first. Make sure that person knows you are grateful. Take the time today to appreciate family and friends.
As you head out hunting for your Black Friday deals, consider purchasing a little something extra for Santa’s Helping Hands. This group of elves wants to make sure every child in Poinciana has a special gift for Christmas.
Look for donation boxes at local merchants or call Bob Tremblay, 407-729-2177 or e-mail santashelpinghands
@msn.com.

The Poinciana Ladies Club, one of the community’s longest running clubs, will hold its three-day carnival Dec. 4-6. The carnival will be at Vance Harmon Park (Country Club and Cypress Parkway).
This year will feature a new addition. On Saturday, Dec. 5, a community yard sale will be held alongside the carnival at Harmon Park. A 10-by-10 space is available at a cost of $10.
Help the Poinciana Ladies Club whenever possible. This group gives back to the community in many ways, including the two scholarships that are given to deserving Poinciana high school seniors each year. To rent a space at the community yard sale, call Connie Lopez, 863-496-2828.

There is a new one and only baseball league in Poinciana. The Poinciana Little League holds a full charter through the Little League in Williamsport, Va. This is the league that plays its end-of-season Little League World Series. Youth ages 5 to 18 may play.
A first for Poinciana is that this program offers a Challenger League. This also is for children ages 5 to 18, and is a league for children with disabilities.
Poinciana Little League is planning opening day in March. For more information, call Brian Reilly, 407-933-5304.
The U.S. Baseball Academy, the nation’s largest baseball instructional program, will offer a six-week training session at Poinciana High School. The session will begin in the spring.
This is advance training in hitting, pitching and catching given by top area coaches. There is a 5:1 ratio of instructor to athlete as well as batting cages to hone skills.
Space is limited and registration is currently under way. The program is for children in first through 12th grade, and the fee is $99. You can register now and pay later. For more information, call 866-622-4487.
